Domestic Lineage

“This project, “Domestic Lineage” developed with thanks to the Albert P. The Weisman Award has given me the opportunity to finally realize the necessity of incorporating textiles in many elements of my studio practice. …I look forward to continuing experimenting with the combination of photographs and textiles and feel that these pieces exhibited and shared through the Albert P. Weisman Award are only the beginning.”

“In “Domestic Lineage”, I combine photographs with textile scraps to build repetitive patterns that reference the cyclical, endless nature of domestic tasks. Many of the images depict hands performing the mundanework of folding and scrubbing, combined with functional, domestic items. I use photographs to locate these items and the body in the domestic space, insinuating action that is never completed, but is repeated day after day. I use fabric, objects and patterns often related to the domestic space, because I am decidedly not interestedin making an outright criticism of domestic life. Instead, I’m choosing to include that evidence of work in each piece.”
